I dont like flash bars and pubs. I like committed boozers where you might get away with falling over or being a bit cheeky. This is my favourite pub in Brighton called the Heart and Hand. The juke box is full of some superb 45s inc The Who’s Mary Anne with the Shaky Hands, Love’s a House is not a Motel and Buffalo Springfield’s I am a Child. The ales not bad and the bar staff are usually very nice.

Ewen studied under the tutorage of British Phototgraphers Paul Reas and Mark Power at the School of Art and Design at the University of Brighton. He graduated in 1997 and quickly became known for his groundbreaking editorial during the late 90’s for The Face & Sleazenation magazine. He immediately spoke to an audience interested in subcultures, multiculturalism, music, graphic art, photography, fashion and primarily youth culture. His Open Mic book was awarded a yellow pencil certificate by the D&AD in 2005 for Photographic publishing, and remains one of the best examples of Ewen’s work to date.

Really great restaurant, which started out in Dec 2016, with a mission to serve authentic Caribbean food and cocktails. The jerk chicken is really good, but I really like the Trini Curry Roti (pictured) and Goat Curry (when available). You've also got to try the homemade hot sauce, which I slap it on everything.

I love the smell of this bookshop. On my first visit I felt like an explorer making a major archeological discovery. There is a basement, which you get to via a spiral staircase. I am convinced that behind one of the floor to ceiling books shelves is a secret room that opens up by sliding out a secret book from a shelf.

Really great record shop, in the heart of the North Laine. They have a really good selection of new releases and recently expanded so they could stock more vinyl records. My go to place when I need a screen break from work, as my design studio is just around the corner.

Often I see people sitting on the beach alone, staring at the horizon in silence. Its expanse has a calming affect. It’s a place where life becomes simplified into clouds, waves, the odd seagull and sailboat.

The Viaduct is one of those big pieces of architecture that you notice from afar and ignore close up. So get close for a major neck craning and you'll get that “how the hell did they ever build this…” feeling. When I look up I get vertigo and I doubt the strength of those spindly looking redbrick supports. Preston Road and Beaconsfield Road are good places to look around, and afterwards you can pop into the nearby Signalman pub.
