This is my absolute favourite restaurant in town. But then again I have to correct myself; it's not merely a restaurant. It is a pizzeria, a bakery, a brunch place, coffee bar and a fine-dining restaurant all in one. It is casually cozy while it offers great food. Set around a magnificent wood oven this restaurant by star chef Kobe Desramaults is truly a gem!
Best art book shop in town with a great selection! It is run by graphic designer Jurgen Maelfeyt and has a little gallery where there have interesting shows.
Museum Dr Ghuislain is a museum and a psychiatric centre. It is housed in the oldest mental asylum in Belgium, still functioning today, and aims to break down the many prejudices that still define what is ‘mentally ill’ and what is ‘normal’. They do this by assembling their own collection of outsider art or art brut, they host shows on contemporary human themes and have a permanent collection on the history of psychiatry.
019 is an artist-run exhibition, concert and work space occupying a former welding factory in Ghent. The project is initiated and run by Smoke & Dust together with many others. 019 operates as a collective too by the installation of projects in the city of Ghent. Keep an eye on their website for the latest projects!
Small restaurant on the outskirts of the city serving refined hors d'oeuvres to be shared. They also have a great selection of natural wines. Top place!
