Since 2006 when the last inmate left the former Horsens State Penitentiary, intense work and effort have been invested in the project which is now a reality: FÆNGSLET (THE PRISON). Today the historic buildings of the former state penitentiary houses FÆNGSLET, the cultural institution that encompasses The Prison Museum, the city’s tourist information center VISITHORSENS, the prison hotel SleepIn Fængslet, business events, festivals, concerts, the shared office space FÆNGSLET 2. EAST and much more. In the heart of FÆNGSLET stands The Prison Museum where the Museum of Horsens has created a unique experience of the life behind walls through sound, film, photos and belongings – ideally situated within the authentic surroundings of the old penitentiary. The former prison yard where inmates used to enjoy fresh air and exercise is today a concert arena. Outdoor concerts and event of any taste can be enjoyed here throughout the summer semester.

Phuc was born in Vietnam and raised in Denmark. He has a background as a graphic designer and works in the intersection of design, art and culture. His multicultural background truly comes to life in his works, which is a beautiful fusion of two worlds. Phuc is passioned about Street Art – he creates modern fables with his fabulous figurative tales, which the viewer can reflect upon. Phuc Van Dang’s works are all based on original concepts, with Phucs unique touch of personal style and storytelling. There is a lot of consideration behind every details and in the choice of materials. Phuc has exhibited in New York, Saigon, Barcelona, Tokyo and several places in Denmark. Phuc has received Statens Kunstråds Huskunstordning and from the State Art Foundation for the exchange of culture between Denmark and Vietnam.

Horsens / Beach

Langelinie is the central beach resort in Horsens, where people across age and background meet to enjoy the view, hang out with friends, play in the water, have picnics or take a stroll along the waterfront. Historically, Langelinie developed during the late 1950s as part of the construction of the industrial harbor in Horsens, where waste soil lay the groundwork for a recreational area. With its closeness to the water and the marina, Langelinie has always been an attractive public area for leisure and outdoor activities. MÆRK Byen* has since 2017 created several temporary project at Langelinie to support the urban life and activities at the area. At Langelinie, you can meet different urban installations and initiatives throughout the green area, e.g. a long wooden pier, lanes for petanque and beach volley, several playful installations and the trolls Troels, Laura and Julian created from recycled wood by artist Thomas Dambo. During the summer, Langelinie resents a variety of cultural events for all ages, e.g. outdoor yoga, building workshops, music, outdoor cinema and much more. During summer, Langelinie is also use as a circus place with elephants grassing nearby. *MÆRK Byen is an initiative that creates temporary urban spaces, cultural events and urban life in Horsens. MÆRK Byen is part of The Municipality of Horsens and is a corporation between The Planning Department and The Culture and Event Department.

Horsens Art Museum Horsens Art Museum is a highly pro led museum showing Danish contemporary art, and in a lesser degree examples of international contemporary art. Among a lot of other things, the museum has the biggest collection of paintings, drawings and graphic works by the famous Danish artist Michael Kvium, who was born and raised in Horsens. With its location in the beautiful park Lunden (the Grove), Horsens Art Museum is always worth a visit.
