Originally from Tallinn, Estonia, Mia attended art school to study fashion design and photography before pursuing a modelling career — a step that allowed her to traipse around the world and lead her back, eventually, to photography. Heavily inspired by dreams, darkness and fantasies, the photographer expertly weaves narratives into her imagery, getting close enough to her subjects to decrypt the intensity in their expressions and the vulnerability of their posture. Matthew Brandt (b. 1982, Los Angeles) received his BFA from Cooper Union in 2004 and MFA from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2008. Interested in physicality, process and landscape, Brandt’s ability to stretch the readings of an image, multiplying them both physically and conceptually, speaks directly to his interest in how images loom and meanings shift within a shared visual history. His work is the clever manifestation of a photographic alchemist, satisfying the urge for the tangible, and grounding us in the present. Always earthy and metal prominent, my form of design is to present a contemporary take on traditional items. Whether the project is to repurpose inherited pieces, design a custom item, or simply add to our collection, the process is very intentional. Since Sustainability and small-scale production is my main focus, our pieces are never mass-produced or ready to ship and I take pride in the intimacy of creating made to order pieces.
