Seattle may be known for coffee, but at People's Republic you can have a coffee and see some of the best local comedy in town. There is a fantastic free open mic that happens every Friday night.

Dick's is a longest running fast food restaurant in Seattle and a staple of the city. There are 5 locations and I've managed to always live in the same neighborhood as one, which is both a good and bad thing. Burgers, fries and milkshakes, cash only.

Gas Works was a working gasification plant for 50 years that was turned into a public park in the 70s. You might even recognize it from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. Gas Works photos by Simon Chetrit.

There are a handful of historic independent movie theaters scattered around the city, but the Harvard Exit is my favorite. There are two screens and you can always see something great here.
