As a child I looked forward to wander through the magic forest of ‘the Efteling’, the amusement park is located in the forested area of Tilburg. Nowadays I find more inspiration in the forested surroundings itself. The appealing security reveals its secrets less explicit and the atmosphere remains mysterious. This is where feeling prevails, and fairytales come to life. You can reach the forested areas on a 10 minutes ride on your bike.

Roland Maas is currently working as an artist in Tilburg, in the South of the Netherlands. In his autonomous work Maas does not limit himself to a particular technique or discipline. While creating, the process of making is all that matters and directs the final shape of the art work which can be different from its initial concept. This fits in his current ceramic works, which he combines with technical materials and garbage. Maas is also a photographer, illustrator and creator of the world’s first toon-model ‘Babelle’

Tilburg / Event

The summer-festivities that are organized every year give face to a city that was to be considered faceless for decades. Incubate, the annual celebration of independent culture forms a platform for musical styles,movies, lectures and visual arts. In 2011, Luke Jerram's project "Play Me I'm Yours" caused a lot of amazing street-moments where everyone was invited to play one of the 101 pianos in the city streets. The Incubate Festival takes place in September.

In July the center of Tilburg transforms to a 5 km fun fair. The splendor of lights, the impressive rides and the fun fair visitors form its main attraction. The highlight takes place on 'Roze Maandag'. 'Pink Monday' is not just a party for gay people, most enjoyable are the outdoor dancings where you can get loose no matter who or what you are.

Tilburg / Museum

The former factory buildings of the museum gives you a perfect picture of the textile production of the previous century. But even more interesting might be another important part of the museum called the 'TextileLab' which allows students, artists and designers to execute their designs on the machines. The idea to do so has gone through my head ever since.

Tilburg / Event

This second hand market covers the whole center of the city, starting on Saturday evening and ends on Sunday in the afternoon. Initially I was attracted by the nighttime-atmosphere of the event, but in recent years the 'après' May-market, when heaps of abandoned junk are left in the street afterwards became more of my interest than the market itself.
