Shortlisted as Emerging Woman Architect of the Year by Architects Journal,‘new talent’ by the Guardian and ‘one to watch’ by Wallpaper’s Editor Tony Chambers in 2012. Pernilla Ohrstedt was born in 1980 in Stockholm. Her design output has been both in the UK and abroad, spanning the disciplines of experimental art, architecture and curatorial practice. In 2011 Pernilla set a collaborative architecture partnership with Asif Khan. She has collaborated on several celebrated projects with Asif, including Future Memory Pavilion 2011 for British Council and Royal Academy of Arts in Singapore, Cloud 2011 for Design Miami Basel and Colette, Paris. Pernilla & Asif are currently designing Coca-Cola’s pavilion for the London 2012 Olympic Park. The 1000sqm Pavilion is an experimental building called the Beatbox. Collaborating with the music producer Mark Ronson the pavilion seamlessly integrates innovative sound technology and experimental design into a piece of architecture that the visitor will be able to play like a musical instrument.

She believes good design comes from unlimited questioning, challenging convention and creating and collecting innovative methods to solve visual tasks into an unique ways. The process is often based on a strong idea or a fundamental concept which exploited to the maximum with no preconceptions. To emphasis that it is concept-driven design; the form is often learning towards anti-esthetics. It is a paradox that this actually is an esthestic in itself. She is especially interested in concept-based project and investigating the interdisciplinary design methodologies into visual grammar. I was born in the mid 1980's and grow up in London. From always having a fascination with mechanical objects and relentlessly playing with lego as a child becoming a still life photographer seemed like a natural progression. There is something enormously rewarding about creating exactly whats in your head. I try and make my images on first glance look completely perfect but on closer inspection its revealed there are many imperfections, if you look closer at the 'Wrapping Paper Series' you can see all the joins and creases. I think this makes it look and feel like a photograph and not CGI.
