Street art at it’s best. This area shows some of the best graffiti art I’ve seen. Entire buildings cover with intricate imagery. that gain new depth through the layering of different artists.

Ivan Bernal is a Colombian born architect and designer. He received his Masters Degree from SCI-Arc with honors and the recognition of “Best Thesis” 2011. He has worked in all scales and levels in the architecture profession. From installations to Master plans. He is committed to the experimentation of the built form and pushing the limits of the field. Making those who accept standardization uncomfortable his work deals with the relationship among form, culture and the social impact of the built environment. Not limited to the conventional architectural media, he explores different techniques such as animations, mix-media models and photo manipulation to express his ideas.

I hang around on the rooftop to relax. Los Angeles traffic is crazy so this is a good place to calm down and try to find my zen. The view is great and I love the rooftop Neon signs you can see from here.

The Smell is a non-profit, all-ages music venue who's run the gamut of completely rad and completely shitty acts, but is doubtlessly an interesting and worthy place to use up a pair of earplugs. After all, it's not everyday you see a dude shred his fucking face apart playing an amplified shard of glass! The Smell is a little difficult to find, but when you hit the dark alley in which it resides -- and which every fiber of your being tells you will be host to your mugging -- just clutch your purse, keep your chin up and head straight down until you run into a grip of hipsters in a haze of smoke, donning asymmetrical haircuts, and one-too-many animal prints, and you're there! It's alcohol-free, so make sure you either drink before you arrive, or head out between acts to one of a couple local bars to sauce up!

South Willard is both elegant and laid back. Let's call it High Folk. It functions as both an art & design gallery and boutique. It's extremely well curated with a heavy focus on ceramics by artists both known and newly discovered. Peter Shire, Ruby Neri, Jason Meadows.., work by artists I have known and admired for decades can be found here and acquired in a means considerably more approachable than through the other galleries that represent them. South Willard is a friends and family affair and the experience feels warm and welcoming. Have fun.

Right by my apartment, I can't help but come here often. It's situated right around the historic La Brea Tar Pits. One needs to spend an entire day here. Also love their magazine/book store.
