Johanna Goodman is an Artist and Illustrator whose work seeks to explore a range of themes in popular culture including the role of the individual in fashion, in history, and in the artistic imagination. Her work draws its inspiration from Magical Realism, Surrealism, and Symbolism and references such cultural artifacts as talismans, idols, and totems. Goodman’s work can be seen on posters installed in Subway stations throughout NYC, on skateboards, magazine covers, textiles, ceramics and a gallery wall near you. New York / Museum

Growing up in Arizona I loved collecting rocks and was especially obsessed with gemstones. I have a natural affinity for this section of The Museum of Natural History and it’s oddly peaceful and relaxing even when the museum is packed.

Dia:Beacon is a short train ride from the city in a former Nabisco box printing factory. This art foundation has 240,000 square feet of art from the 1960s to the present. Dia features the work of Sol LeWitt, Imi Knoebel, Andy Warhol, Dan Flavin, Agnes Martin, On Kawara, Bruce Nauman, and many others. I love going during the summer to enjoy the gardens surronding the building.

I read that the design of Central Park's curving spaces was a Romantic counter to the geometry of Enlightenment-era gardens. I heard this design was influenced by landscape painting, where its foreground, middleground, and background constantly shift as you walk the paths. I find new pockets and features every time I'm there. One of my favorite spots is with the Central Park Dance Skaters, a group that roller skates in circles all day to vintage electro funk. These characters generously lend you the feeling of being in your own 1980's New York film.

The Sunset in my neighbourhood Is fantastic. Like a Caspar David Friedrich painting the sunsets are so romantic that you cannot help but feel overwhelmed with emotion if you are ever witness to one. In spite of Bushwick being full of warehouses and industrial buildings (and reportedly no trees..) There is a raw beauty that is so magical that words cannot express.

Paris in Brooklyn, etc. I have to try hard not to say 'Garçon.' But either way, 'monsieur' would be more appropriate; proper French waitstaff, proper French food.
