I struggle with eating out in Vancouver, generally I prefer the burrito style places like Bandidas Taqueria on Commercial drive or Budgies Burritos on Kingsway, because they can keep it mellow and hassle free. Pronto is a new one, it has a great Italian coffee bar from the 60’s vibe.

Fupper is Simon Hughes, a musician from London currently living in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The latest Fupper release is “Foreign Bodies”; it is his 18th album in 20 years. The music sounds like an electronic Moondog with luscious guitars, harmonized vocals, spoken word, lyrics of streaming consciousness, found sounds and field recordings. “I have given a list of some of my favorite Vancouver haunts. Besides these, drink in the nature and get wet.”

A little sanctuary for me. I come in here once a week and look around and touch the records and ponder and rarely (sorry to say this) buy anything! I bet they have a nickname for me….

Despite the stigma that surrounds East Vancouver, the alleys are often adorned with amazingly colourful offerings. I find it very inspiring to take a stroll through a select few and pick out literary scrawling, graffiti, and the layers of vibrant history that cover the walls.

Catalog Gallery consistently exhibits amazing art spanning genre and style. It’s one of my favourite galleries in the city, and always has a surprise in store. You can’t find the kind of work it presents anywhere else in Vancouver.

Straight underneath the bridge lies this charming little island that houses some of my favourite restaurants, such as the Sandbar and the yellow Bridges. Among all the things here you can also find a theatre, a brewery, a public food market and of course the Emily Carr university.

I'm here once a week, bouncing round the park with my dog Martha, generally yelling her name trying to stop her eating poo or lick little kids faces, usually one after the other. There are so many parks and woods and mountains in and around Vancouver, but for some reason this place just works for me - maybe there is less of a fear of being eaten by a bear or bugs?
