Although in possession of a very convincing white-cube space, Hoast adds flavour to their exhibition program with a generous portion of socially-minded neighbourhood events: be it a flea market as a way for artists to raise money for their proposed projects or a communal election-watching night with chilli con carne and vodka.

Miranda is a beautiful little cocktail bar located in a calm side street of the 6th district.  It offers a great selection of seasonal cocktails, a combination of their own creations and interpretations of classic drinks. Designed by Tzou Lubroth Architects, the interior is a tasteful mix of pastel colors. The center piece is a huge green granite bar. Best just sit at the bar and watch the barmen mixing drinks.

Smartly curated and art savvy, Mauve has been putting together reliably excellent shows with a focus on contemporary painting since 2012. Mauve’s bar features a neon cactus, a choice of favourite drinks and a crowd of artists in their natural habitat.

An off-space in a more classical sense, Ada is an eclectic merge of a crumbling Viennese apartment and technology-enthusiastic DIY. Among witty interventions and mismatched wallpapers it offers a relaxed, but solid program focused on media art.

I love visiting places that offer a totally different idea of urbanity and experimental concepts for urban (mass) housing. The Wohnpark Alterlaa, built from 1973–1985, is such a project. Hop on the subway to get there and I recommend that you take an extended walk through the area and the surrounding park.
