A personal favourite as I created the branding Identity for this space, so I've spent many afternoons and evenings here whenever family visited me in Cape Town. Probably the best service in CT!
The Shortmarket Club is an incredible fine dining restaurant tucked away at the top of a narrow staircase, in the centre of town. It has the feel of a closed members’ club. The space is equipt with classic New York style booths, romantic lighting, an open style kitchen and skilled waiters. The head Chef and owner, Wesley Randles prides himself on locally sources produce, he serves up dishes that tantalize and inspire. Every time. Their selection cocktails, AB Badenhorst wines and the Cape Malay octopus is a must!
I have always been passionate about Natural History. The collections in this museum are extraordinary. Founded in 1825 this is the oldest museum in sub-Saharan Africa, includes the only preserved specimen of the extinct Quagga and ridiculously beautiful diorama’s of the Karoo. I don’t believe any natural history collection can be compared with another, this one is old and decaying and quite perfect...period.. If I’m ever short of inspiration this is where I’ll go.
Every full moon we walk to the top of Lions Head. It’s a part walk, part climb and we invariably return once the sun’s set and the full moon risen, so the journey down can be quite interesting. The view from the top is spectacular. I often sit here high above the city and watch the late night flights to Europe carving their way through the thick, liquid purple sky, happily accepting that they’ve left me here.
New Harbour, is a craft distillery, run by the amazing due Nic and Andri Janeke. They will not only serve you the best Gin in Cape Town, but will also make you feel happy and at home. You have to try their Vodka, Rooibos Infused Gin and Spekbook Gin, honestly my favourite Gin on the planet.
