citylikeyou — City Hall — Oslo by Anja Niemi

The City Hall ( Rådhuset ) is my favorite building in Oslo, it was designed by Arnstein Arneberg and Magnus Poulsson and completed in 1950. I love the main hall with its 21 meter high ceilings, and wall paintings by Norwegian artists Henrik Sørensen og Alf Rolfsen.

Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi, ( b. 1976 ) is represented by the Little Black Gallery in London but lives and works from Oslo. Her two latest series Starlets and Do Not Disturb set her distinct self portrait style. Joining tragedy with humor in a staged narrative setting, she presents a series of tragic-comic personas from tormented suburban housewives to roller disco divas.

Oslo / River

Is a couple of minutes walk from my apartment. It’s a little waterfall that is part of the Lysaker River, which defines the south western border of Oslo. I think it’s just as beautiful in the summer as winter. I love the fact that there are so many places in Oslo where you really feel close to nature. This place makes me feel good.

Oslo / Restaurant

I love how this Vietnamese restaurant has decided to keep the interior and exterior of the Greek restaurant that was there before it. Also: good food for a reasonable price.

Oslo / Music Venue

Sentrum Scene and Rockefeller Music Hall are two concert venues located close to each other in the center of Oslo. I’ve had some of my best concert experiences here, with both Norwegian and international stars!

Oslo / Park

Ekebergparken is Oslo's newest sculpture park with work by artist such as Louise Bourgeois, Sarah Sze, Marina Abramović and Sean Henry. In addition to the sculptures placed carefully in between the forested parkland, Ekebergparken has a fantastic view of the City.

Oslo / Restaurant

The Ekeberg restaurant is located on the Ekeberg hill and offers a great view of the Oslofjord and great food. Not the cheapest place in Oslo, but the view and the delicious food are worth the price!
