Tarrawarra is a day trip from the city that everyone must make at least once. A private collection of Australian art made public in an incredible piece of contemporary architecture. Situated on the most bucolic and picturesque piece of countryside you can imagine. Now has a new restaurant and cellar door, so you can buy a bottle of wine and sit overlooking the lake. It's pretty perfect.

The Merri Creek is a magical place. With a walking path running along it, amid the city and suburban chaos it is a passage of wild green and beautiful weeds. The place has ancient significance to the indigenous Wurrundjeri tribes as a place of meeting, living and hunting.

If you find Quarries park and playground you have to keep walking, over the hill towards the creek and then down to the creek trail to find this secret place. It's a labyrinth made from blue stones and is maintained by a voluntary group of mystical new druids or something, for all to use. A great place to find and walk the path, focus your thoughts and clear your mind. Best when it is a frosty morning, like in this pic.

Everyone from famous locals such as Courtney Barnett, Archie Roach, The Drones and Paul Kelly to visitors like Tool, Beck and Elvis Costello. Founders Quincy McLean and Helen Marcou are total legends too.

At the intersection of fashion, photography, film, stagecraft, and design, artist Marina Fini creates hallucinatory, alternative worlds. Based in California, she collaborates with friends and artists alike in the staging of these otherworldly scenes, using colorful costumes and her own handmade, plexiglass jewelry to turn her photographic subjects into ethereal cyber goddesses. When asked how she builds these characters, Fini remarked, “there’s something about transforming someone into someone they wouldn’t normally be … that is, creating an extension of themselves that I see in them.” All of her characters exude a captivating power, like the whimsical and intangible figures seen through a psychedelic dream. By exploring alternative selves in familiar contexts – a convenience store, or the Californian seaside, for example – Fini explores how subjecthood is fluid, and how such creative “shape-shifting” can alter the way we perceive our immediate reality.
