Dutch born photographer Gijs van der Most is based in Los Angeles. Since he switched Amsterdam for Los Angeles about two years ago, he’s been quickly becoming a favorite in the downtown Los Angeles photography scene. Gijs’ photography is direct, personal, and sometimes with a little wink. He’s fascinated by people, their behavior and their environment. His documentary projects include “Used Car Salesmen”, “Yard Sales”, “Sign Jugglers”, and his most recent project ” I ♥ Runyon Canyon”. Even though Van der Most works are displayed in series, he doesn’t waste a single image. Gijs has co-created the blog “van der THIS! “, with his comedian/writer wife Michelle Buteau fusing the photography and comedy world into a miniseries that is eye catching as well as entertaining. They have been serving Japanese comfort food since the late 60's and is the last gasp of a neighborhood in Boyle Heights that was once predominantly Japanese. No frills. You have to access through a dark, damp tunnel, and when you emerge …there it is, from Grease to Going 60 seconds, to Transformer and Drive. You are immediately transported to a high speed chase or and action movie scene. Nothing beats an Isolated piece of infrastructure.
