Aya is a designer, and artist from Tokyo, Japan, based in NYC, sometime Europe. Her work was featured by Vogue Magazine UK, Maison&Objet Paris, New York Times, IDEAT, TL mag, Domus, AIGA Eyes on Design, Adobe creative jams and more. She was selected one of four new designers 2017 in Salone del mobile Satelite Milan design week ‘17 by Luxos Magazine. From ages 3 to 18 she studied classical violin; this early and extensive study of music continues to be a big influence on her process. Her work was a finalist for addition to the permanent collection of the Cranbrook Art Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. Winner of “Best new talent designer ‘2016” at the DMY Berlin International Design Festival. Silver medal at A’Design Award 2017. Opened in 1985, The Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography was created in order to preserve an unprecedented resource, Herb Lubalin’s vast collection of work. Its goal was to provide the design community with a means to honor Lubalin, and to study his innovative work. The collection also includes work by other eminent designers including Otl Aicher, Rudi Baur, Anthon Beeke, Lucian Bernhard, Lester Beall, Will Burtin, Lou Dorfsman, Karl Gerstner, Tibor Kalman, Alvin Lustig, The Push Pin Studios, Paul Rand, Bradbury Thompson, Massimo Vignelli, and many more. There is also a library of books and magazines about design and typography, an extensive collection of posters, myriad type specimen books and pamphlets.

It's sugar-coated shabbyness. I have been there in wintertime, all the rides and attractions were closed, but it´s still nice to have a walk on the beach or spot some funny looking storefronts and vintage-looking rollercosters. A perfect backdrop for photoshootings, a gem for friends of vintage typography. On 4th of july hot dog eating contests are held here (they actually do that!).

The Ford Foundation Atrium houses a miniature tropical rainforest. Its glass walls create a temperate environment for the garden, while also creating a seamless flow of green space between the atrium and Tudor City Park to the east. The Ford Foundation Gallery shines a light on artwork that wrestles with difficult questions, calls out injustice, and points the way toward a more fair and just future. The atrium is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. when the gallery has an exhibition on view.

I used to live around the corner from here and would be there for breakfast, lunch and dinner almost everyday. The staff is super friendly and I believe it's the best pizza in town. I also did the mural outside and I love seeing all pictures people post and how people engage with the work and how it becomes a part of their experience there.
